How To Write and Promote A Blog Post

by Gigi Ross on May 2, 2013

ways to promote a blog

Get idea for post while driving in car.

Forget said great idea for 38 days.

Remember post idea.

Compose draft in blog platform.

Check to see what’s going on on Twitter; get distracted.

Forget said draft for 72 days.

Remember draft.

Finish draft.

Spend 20 minutes researching “best time to post blog;” find it’s sometime between Monday and Friday, depending on reader demographics.

Realize you don’t know your reader demographics. Or if you even have any.

Spend 20 minutes researching how to figure out your reader demographics.

Express shock when you realize your reader demographics are 24 year-old males living in Phuket.

Understand why most of your posts get no traffic.

Resolve to write what your readers want.

Query self as to what that might be.

Remember that you did not publish blog post that doesn’t fit your reader demographic.

Publish post.

Forget that you did not include a Pinterest-friendly image.

Find image.

Make it Pinterest-friendly.

Save image and add image to post.

Re-save post.

Pray it goes viral.

Spend 20 minutes researching “best time to pin on Pinterest;” find no good answer.

Promise self to experiment with pinning at 4:00 a.m.

Go to Facebook to share post on fan page.

Remember that if you want to pay to promote said post on FB, Pinterest friendly image with text violates FB rules.

Make Pinterest-friendly image less Pinterest friendly.

Share post on Facebook with new image.

Realize image is too wide for Facebook.

Delete FB post.

Resize image.

Share post on Facebook again.

Pray it goes viral.

Pass on spending 20 minutes researching “best time to share on FB;’ give up because we all know that nobody effing knows the answer to anything about Facebook.

Tweet post on Twitter.

Realize you struggle with 140 characters. Chalk it up to your extreme intelligence.

Realize your blog post titles are way too long; mental note to shorten.

Pray it goes viral.

Spend 20 minutes researching “best time to Tweet,” no good answer.

Check your FB shares. Boo.

Check your blog comments. Answer the 2 you have.

Go read 40 people’s blog posts and leave comments.

Hope they come back and comment on yours.

Check your Pinterest repins.

Repin the Pinterest friendly image to another board.

Look at pictures of yummy food and cute outfits on Pinterest.

Resolve to spend less time on social media and more time making yummy food and wearing cute outfits.

Visit Facebook groups and figure out which ones will be least pissed if you ask them to promote your post.

Like your own FB update.

Go back to Twitter.

Retweet your own tweet. Because no one else has.

Get distracted for 20 minutes by the fact that everyone you know is on a fabulous press trip and tweeting under hashtag #IAmOnAFAbulousPressTripAndYou’reNOTSUCKA.

Curse Twitter.

Attempt to quell your jealousy; see what’s in your pantry.

Check how many people liked your Facebook post.

Share it to your personal Facebook wall. Because you’re getting freaking desperate now and WHY does no one like this post you spent more than 100 days on?

See how much money is in your Paypal account to buy Facebook ads.

Curse Facebook.

Remember that you are supposed to be doing more on Google Plus.

Try to remember your Google Plus login.

Recover your login.

Note that you have not been on Google Plus for approximately 8 months and 14 days.

Share your blog post with Google Plus.

Pray it goes viral.

Realize that you people with names you cannot pronounce make up your entire G+ following. They are only 27 of them.

Spend 20 minutes following people on Google Plus.

Curse Google Plus.

Spend 20 minutes researching “how do I get more followers on Google Plus” and realize the answer is the same as every other damn network: “CREATE GREAT CONTENT AND ENGAGE.”

Consider writing e-book on how to get more followers.

Spend 20 minutes researching how to achieve work life balance.

Check Facebook shares.

Consider quitting Facebook forever.

Marvel at how another blogger can post “My preschooler just had a diaper blowout! Code blue!” on Facebook and have 949 likes.

Consider having another baby so you can post shit updates and get lots of likes.

Regret having tubes tied.

Spend 20 minutes researching tubal ligation reversal.

Pin your Google Plus post to Pinterest. Because you’re sick that way.

Go to Pinterest and share your Google Plus pin on Twitter and Facebook.

Steel yourself for the fact that you are alienating everyone in your networks.

Look at homemade crafts for Mother’s Day. Self-bash for not being more crafty.

Curse Pinterest.

Realize that you haven’t stumbled, dug, kirstied, reddited or tumblred your post.

Realize that you were supposed to pick up your kids an hour ago at school.

Realize that you did not do laundry or cook dinner.

Wonder if you should invest in a case of Depends now so that you never have to leave your desk and can promote your blog post all day long.

Call husband and ask him to pick up kids.

Decide you deserve a glass of wine.

Have 3.

Remember that you didn’t optimize your post for SEO.

Curse SEO.

Fall asleep while researching “how to promote a blog post;”  realize that you’ll never be cut out for this shizz.

Wake up.

Thanks for stopping by! I’ve got a great giveaway for an HP All-In-One printer running you may want to check out!

Colleen May 2, 2013 at 3:38 am

I’m commenting on your post. Now go comment on mine.

And this was freakin’ funny “Consider having another baby so you can post shit updates and get lots of likes.”

Not sure how I’m supposed to drum up likes, shares, tweets, pins…workin’ my guts out!

Melanie May 2, 2013 at 4:51 am

Love!! So funny! So me!

Great post!

Kristen Daukas May 2, 2013 at 4:56 am

And they say blogging is not a business. That’s a FULL day of work there with some hefty overtime!

Alison May 2, 2013 at 4:58 am

Love, love, love this.

This part was my favoritest (because there were many parts that were my favorite):
“…we all know that nobody effing knows the answer to anything about Facebook.”

Laura May 2, 2013 at 9:52 am

I totally thought of you, Alison, when I read that sentence.

Renee Schuls-Jacobson May 2, 2013 at 5:03 am

Funniest post ever. This is NOT what I was expecting from your Pinterest-friendly graphic. Maybe it’s time to cut back on the freelance and start working on that book.

You know, because writing a book is soooo much easier. And the pay is great. :)

Lisa @ The Golden SpOONS May 2, 2013 at 5:17 am

Been there. Done that. Therefore, I can’t decide if this is completely hilarious or terribly sad! :-)

Kim@Co-Pilot Mom May 2, 2013 at 5:40 am

I really relate to the idea-then-forgetting and draft-post-and-forgetting of the blogging process. :)

Jessica, The Debt Princess May 2, 2013 at 5:47 am

You NAILED it!!!!

Nina May 2, 2013 at 6:01 am

Perhaps the most impossible direction of all is “work life balance.” 😉

shelly May 2, 2013 at 6:06 am

Yes indeedy! A to the men on this one.

JD Bailey @ Honest Mom May 2, 2013 at 6:11 am

Nailed it.

Carolyn Y May 2, 2013 at 6:11 am

Ha, this was great. But my favourite? Post in head that 38 days later might be written out. I always think of something while driving…

Michelle May 2, 2013 at 6:13 am

This could not be more perfect Gigi. At one point, this is every blogger.

Anita May 2, 2013 at 6:17 am

Lol … LOVe your post. As a graphic design freelancer I can relate on so many levels. I think you’ll be great at writing a book, so I say GO FOR IT! (I’ll design your book cover for free! 😉 A fun read and refreshing article. Looking forward to read your next post :-)

Jeanette Nyberg May 2, 2013 at 6:21 am

Hi-larious, and definitely is drawing everyone in for one reason and keeping us all reading. Gotta go curse some social media sites now, but I’ll be sharing this to them as well.

Jay Cooney (Omni Hotels) May 2, 2013 at 6:25 am

I read this entire post, then got up and pulled my office shades closed.

So happy my pain has helped you create such fantastic content.

LOVED this.

Alison May 2, 2013 at 6:26 am

haha. Yup, that’s about how it seems to go. Except add “write down a one word description of post idea at a stoplight. have forgotten what it means by next stoplight”

Stephanie May 2, 2013 at 6:35 am

Loved it, made me realize there are other people out there who obesess like me about their posts. I would add, “lie in bed at night writing a fabulous post in my head, too tired to get up and write it down. Swear I will remember it in the morning (because it is fabulous), wake up with no memory of the post. Again.”

Shereen Travels Cheap October 9, 2013 at 3:16 pm

That is totally me, Stephanie…then I tell myself I’ll never do it again and forget I made that deal next time I’m lying in bed thinking of a great post. Stupid brain :)

Inspire Me Heather May 2, 2013 at 6:35 am

You are too funny, and cheers!

Joy May 2, 2013 at 6:39 am

SO. MUCH. I would only add 2 things:
1. See huge FB pages post “Where are all you new people coming from?” and waste half an hour reading EVERY comment to try to find out.
2. Spend way too much time posting blog thanks to the hundreds of images for half-finished blog posts on your laptop/graveyard.

Jean Parks May 2, 2013 at 6:44 am

I haven’t laughed this hard in weeks! You have just described my blogging process to a T! Wait… why the heck am I laughing? LOL!

Sara May 2, 2013 at 6:48 am

Awesomesauce! And Phuket? Too funny!

Betsy May 2, 2013 at 6:52 am

I laughed out loud at this one ” pin your google plus post to pinterest. Because you’re sick that way” Girl, we’ve all been there. More wine! *clink

Shellie May 2, 2013 at 7:03 am

This post was golden, and I’m not just saying that so you’ll comment back. :)

Joules (from Pocketful of Joules) May 2, 2013 at 7:09 am

Pretty sure you JUST went viral. Loved this post and hated it all at the same time because we’re all the same. I might as well make a sign and dance on the side of the street yelling “like me, Like Me, LIKE MEEEEEE!”

Gigi Ross May 2, 2013 at 7:22 am

I wish it would go viral. But I say that with every post :) Obviously. :)

Carpool Goddess May 2, 2013 at 7:14 am

So nice to know I’m not the only one. Misery loves company :)

Shari Lynne @ Faith Filled Food for Moms May 2, 2013 at 7:28 am

Ok I so love this!!! I’m so happy I’m not the only one! LOL
Blessings and thanks for making my day!!

OneMommy May 2, 2013 at 7:45 am

Way too funny! (and in so many ways, true!)

Crystal May 2, 2013 at 7:46 am

HA HA! This is sooooo true! :)

Kelly K @ Dances with Chaos May 2, 2013 at 7:51 am

Alternative title: How to avoid laundry and cooking dinner.

Thank you for the laugh.

I’ve given up on tracking all the changes to facebook. Now I just have to figure out google+…

Heather May 2, 2013 at 7:52 am

OMG this was freaking hilarious!

Darcy May 2, 2013 at 7:55 am

That about sums it up! I have a baby and still can’t get that many likes though 😛

Liza @ Views From the 'Ville May 2, 2013 at 8:07 am

So I’m not the only one! 😉 Love this post, one of the funniest I’ve read in awhile.

*goes back to praying for viral posts*

Rebecca @RUtheMOMof May 2, 2013 at 8:08 am

This is so my problem it’s like you crawled in my head.

Laura May 2, 2013 at 8:10 am

LOL…great!! I do have these days, and there are a lot of ideas in my head that may never make it to the blog.
I do wish I knew that perfect time to post to Pinterest.

Denise May 2, 2013 at 8:26 am

Ha! Funny, yet quite accurate stuff there. I need to at least try these steps to get visitors to my blog. Right now it’s basically a scrapbook for myself.

Lala May 2, 2013 at 8:31 am

The BEST truth!

Erica May 2, 2013 at 8:42 am

I get mad at myself every day for not being as crafty. Excellent post! Thanks for the laugh! And I laugh because it’s all true.

Suzi May 2, 2013 at 8:49 am

Nailed it! Refresh, refresh, refresh.

Randi Sowders May 2, 2013 at 8:49 am

Love it!!! and very true.

Debra May 2, 2013 at 8:59 am

At least I now know that the process is “normal” – I don’t feel quite as neurotic! Now go comment on my blog! (BTW – best line ever!)

Aimee May 2, 2013 at 9:01 am

Speak the truth!
I’m going to add:

Watch 20 minutes of E! And by 20 minutes you mean 2 hours.

Spend 20 minutes wondering why you don’t have your own television show because you are so damn funny and way more talented than those that have reality shows.

Melissa@Julia's Bookbag May 2, 2013 at 9:07 am

I want you to know that I cried real actual TEARS OF LAUGHTER while reading this. pure epic brilliance!

JDaniel4's Mom May 2, 2013 at 9:16 am

This is why it takes so long to write one post and do the social media for it!

Wendy May 2, 2013 at 9:36 am

Pretty much sums it up! Brilliant. And you know you can always share your posts in our FB group!!

Susie Schnall May 2, 2013 at 9:40 am

I TOTALLY agree. That is so spot on. It’s all too much these days – enough to make your head spin! Thanks for this…

Cynthia May 2, 2013 at 9:49 am

Priceless! Thanks so much bringing everything down to a human level!

Nel Elaine May 2, 2013 at 9:50 am

I was shaking my head and laughing while reading this! As a new blogger I think I only get through about half of the list in a day but I am getting quicker – thanks for making me feel normal!

Laura May 2, 2013 at 9:53 am

My husband doesn’t understand why I am so busy blogging. THIS IS WHY!

Alexa (katbiggie) May 2, 2013 at 10:05 am

Oh my gosh. I am convinced that all of us bloggers might actually be the SAME person!! :-) I was laughing at how this actually happens in my world. And you too have the 24 year old Phuket male crowd? I so actually did spend about 30 mins research tubal ligation reversal not too long ago!

jamie May 2, 2013 at 10:05 am

Oh, this better go viral! 😉

April @ illistyle May 2, 2013 at 10:14 am

Gigi – have you been reading my diary? LOL! I am dying laughing. Thank you for writing down what we do so that I do not have to try to explain it to people anymore. I will just send them to this post. xoxo

Shannon @ The Heavy Purse May 2, 2013 at 10:23 am

LOL! I’m still laughing, which makes it rather hard to type. I would like to pretend this isn’t my life, but it is along with a hundred of other things. But what do obsess about – why my stuff hasn’t gone viral. Because obviously I am brilliant and everything I write, say and do should be worshiped – *commence eye roll* :) Love it! Glad I stumbled upon your blog. Will be back!!

Natalia May 2, 2013 at 10:49 am

Hilarious, Gigi! I am sure there are so many of us out there that can relate! Myself included! At least we know we’re in it together!

Surviving Mom-dom May 2, 2013 at 11:02 am

Holy hell that was awesome! Even though I’ve been blogging for a little while, you described my pain succinctly. I’d ont know what half of that crap you talked about was or how to do it. Can I have you’re ebook?! I dare ask. Can one’s blogging virginity grow back??!? Mine might have!

Michelle @ Vodka, Valium and Duct Tape May 2, 2013 at 11:12 am

So…I’m doing it right?

Lacey May 2, 2013 at 11:22 am

Oh my goodness, this is the funniest and truest thing I’ve read in awhile! I laughed out loud!

Kristi May 2, 2013 at 12:09 pm

I can’t stop snorting at the truthful hilarity. I always forget to post to Pinterest but I curse Twitter and Facebook often.

Sili May 2, 2013 at 12:37 pm

I so HATE the fact that you have been peeking into my life right now. Seriously. I just told someone “I love the writers that I read” and this is why!

You are in my head and I love you for it!

Elaine A. May 2, 2013 at 12:49 pm

Oh my gosh, I laughed so loud at the tubal reversal part!! Not that I’ve ever thought that or anything……. ;p

karissa May 2, 2013 at 12:57 pm

Very funny post. I’m still pretty new in the blogging game and glad that everyone else out there is playing the how to get people to notice what I’m posting game and not just me.

Stephanie @ Hugs, Kisses and Snot May 2, 2013 at 1:32 pm

How did you get inside my head?!

Lori (Once Upon a Run) May 2, 2013 at 2:09 pm

Haha! Love it! Glad someone else was a little green with envy this past week as well 😉

Get distracted for 20 minutes by the fact that everyone you know is on a fabulous press trip and tweeting under hashtag #IAmOnAFAbulousPressTripAndYou’reNOTSUCKA.

Leigh Ann @ Genie in a Blog May 2, 2013 at 3:19 pm

See? Blogging is totally a full time job.

Blogging Bibliophile May 2, 2013 at 3:20 pm

Absolutely brilliant! As someone new to blogging, I found your post both hysterical and frightening. (Mental note to self: research all the references that are unclear to you.)
Happy Days!

Shell May 2, 2013 at 3:42 pm

I really do believe that’s exactly how those hashtags read.

Tree Lindsay May 2, 2013 at 4:14 pm

Boy.. you hit the nail on the head with that one!! LMBO So very true.. and the worst part is we go back and repeat it all each day. :) Definitely LOVE the hashtag #IAmOnAFabulousPressTripAndYou’reNOTSUCKA! lol

Carol May 2, 2013 at 4:31 pm

Ah, yes, this is so true. It’s all such a mess some days and I am amazed if I actually WRITE for 30 minutes. Thanks for making me laugh about it!

Simi May 2, 2013 at 4:31 pm

Lindsay May 2, 2013 at 5:53 pm

HILARIOUS! You made me laugh out loud…for realz. Thanks!

Trisha May 2, 2013 at 5:54 pm

Glad to know I’m doing things the right way! :)

mryjhnsn May 2, 2013 at 5:58 pm

So it is okay to pin your own posts!

brilliant post!

Suzy May 2, 2013 at 6:15 pm

So true. How the heck do those other bloggers get so many likes for diaper blowouts? My kid craps her pants too, can I get some facebook love? lmao/ugh.
Here’s to hoping this post goes viral for ya!

Fern Smith May 2, 2013 at 6:49 pm

Thank you for the laugh!

Bev May 2, 2013 at 7:54 pm

Awesome post! Awesome to know I amnot alone. I laughed through the whole thing. I want to copy it and save it so I can read it over and over when I get frustrated and spend my day full of 20 minutes doing all that stuff! So thankful to you for writing it all out and proving I am not alone!

Lisa May 2, 2013 at 8:26 pm

Oh my gosh! I choked on my drink. Yes, it was wine. Yes, it was possibly my 3rd.

Crystal @ Surviving a Teacher's Salary May 2, 2013 at 8:42 pm

You forgot to add: “Get distracted by KludgyMom’s hilarious post…”

Melissa King May 2, 2013 at 8:43 pm

This is AWESOME! Love this, so nice to know I am not the only one who feels this way. I liked and am sharing ;).

Carole May 2, 2013 at 10:39 pm

this is so great! I am going to link to it from my Blog Tips blog to spread the fun

PS a funny post like this is definitely good SEO!

The Pursuit of Normal May 2, 2013 at 11:34 pm

Have you been spying on me? haha!

Kim May 3, 2013 at 5:37 am

Oh, wow. My tummy hurts from laughing. Of course, I had opened Alison’s blog to read, jumped to yours, moseyed around, remembered I needed to schedule a FB post, then it needed an image, go looking, add a quote, etc, etc, etc. And now I am back here on your home page. Whew. Thanks for the smile today. It’s good to know other writers find themselves similarly distracted. And friends and family wonder what I do all day. From now on, I’ll just hand them your post. ;-D

Jax May 3, 2013 at 7:09 am

And I thought it was just me…thanks for the laugh (and the depressing realization that I’m just not working hard enough to promote MY blog…sigh).

Melissa @ Live, Love, & Run May 3, 2013 at 7:13 am

Oh my God. This is AWESOME. And dead on. I’m totally going for baby #3 for shit posts…

Nicole @MTDLBlog May 3, 2013 at 8:34 am

This. IS. Hysterical!!! And, sadly…my life on the personal blog these days…so disorganized and unfocused.

Sad. State. of. Affairs.

Kimberly May 3, 2013 at 9:56 am

Umm, perfect.

And, too true.

And, really funny.

Jen May 3, 2013 at 10:19 am

Who knew blogging was so complicated?! Aren’t we just supposed to write for writing.

Hahahaha… oh I make myself laugh.

Meredith @ DareYouTo May 3, 2013 at 11:35 am

Hahahahahah! How did you know my strategy?!?!?

Especially the beginning–forgetting and remembering over and over. Yep.

Kim May 3, 2013 at 12:37 pm

Totally me. And I just realized I never pinned one of my most recent posts. *sigh* And the cycle freaking continues. Damn.

Andrea @ Cloud Nine Chic May 3, 2013 at 4:55 pm

Oh man, I actually laughed out loud… Lots of times! So, I’m not the only one, huh?
Your Blog is just wonderful, it always brings a smile to my face! I’m following you on Bloglovin and just added you to my favorite blogs list on my blog.
Keep up the great work! Your readers really appreciate you. 😉

Misty May 3, 2013 at 6:55 pm

wow that was awesome!

Macushla Bubbe May 4, 2013 at 3:20 am

Oy my G-d! I don’t even blog and I’m choking back laughs so as not to wake my sleeping son in the next room! Hilarious! I guess the fact that I’m on Facebook [and how I curse it, for being so addictive] at 5 in my a.m., and that’s “still up” instead of “getting up,” may explain why I can relate… I’m just too easily distracted by it all! “I’ll just log on to check my email. OMG, A. just had her baby… gotta go on FB to holla congrats… Oh, what adorable baby pix… Wait, why haven’t I see these adorable pix of her 1st baby before? Curse FB for their “edge rank algorithm” screwing with what they deem appropriate to put in my newsfeed… Remember I forgot to look up how important legislation vote did yesterday… Get distracted by blue-linky headlines in the margin… Must . not. look . at. lowbrow yahoos’ comments. OK, now that I have, must not feed trolls. … OK, now that I have, must see if that’s got me thumbs upped or thumbs downed… And so it goes… Now I know that my procrastination about taking up blogging is well placed — both from your description, and from the proof that it gives me that others are doing it better than I could! I hope this gem of yours DOES go viral! May it be your “elf on the shelf” and more…

Real Life Parenting May 4, 2013 at 5:32 am

I love this post. Not just a little!! This is good stuff!! :)

Kate May 4, 2013 at 6:02 am

Hilarious, cute, witty and fun! Nice post! Thanks for making me realize I am finally a “real” blogger! LOL!

Chris Carter May 4, 2013 at 6:43 pm

Now THIS ONE should go viral!!!!! Totally sharing!!!! Cause, uh yeah- who can’t relate??????!!!!!! 😉

Lisa May 4, 2013 at 9:34 pm

Oh my. Laughing, crying, and shamed all at the same time. Good to know I’m not the only one who has days where spam comments are the most interesting thing that happens on my blog. Excellent post.

another jennifer May 5, 2013 at 9:31 am

Sounds about right! :)

Liz May 5, 2013 at 12:50 pm

I’ve had the exact same question about the diaper blow out post. Thanks, this post was great.

Miss Sara May 5, 2013 at 12:56 pm

I am SO glad that I clicked on this post to find something REAL instead of “7 tips…” that we all ready know, that we all do… that get us no where. LOL

This was great. I needed this. THANK YOU. :)

Elena May 5, 2013 at 5:31 pm

Talk about something deserving to go viral. This is perfection- and so true. And then we wonder why people don’t understand bloggers– :) Was great to see you this weekend even if briefly!

Jenna K May 5, 2013 at 7:14 pm

I’M NORMAL!!!!!!!!! Either that, or someone has a hidden camera at my computer work station and is just making fun of me…

Desiree May 5, 2013 at 8:11 pm

I will not confirm or deny that I have experienced any of this. 😉

Maggie May 6, 2013 at 6:14 am

This totally made my Monday morning! This was hilarious! {and true…}

Eating 4 Balance May 6, 2013 at 6:52 am

Freaking hilarious and so so true.

Abby May 6, 2013 at 10:27 am

Very cute and yes, can totally relate.

Tiffany from Toot Sweet 4 Two May 6, 2013 at 3:24 pm

Gigi…thank you for the laughs throughout this entire post! I relate so much I think you might have been spying on a-day-in- my life 😉 I am so going to share, like, pin, tweet this everywhere…it’s pure awesome!

Lori May 6, 2013 at 3:45 pm

Love it!!! Thanks for the giggle! : )

Rachael May 6, 2013 at 4:08 pm

This. Is. Fantastic!

Kate SDDS May 6, 2013 at 5:49 pm

I laughed out loud several times!

BabyBumpBeyond Heather May 7, 2013 at 1:36 am

P.S. Thanks for the G+ reminder 😉

lori May 7, 2013 at 10:40 pm

This is the funniest damn thing I’ve read all night! I spin in circles just like that. Awesome.

DeDe@DesignedDecor May 8, 2013 at 3:41 am

Oh, the wonderful life of a blogger! LOL! Well Said! Still laughing!

Ruth May 10, 2013 at 12:29 pm

Okay, this is too funny mate! I will be needing those depends because I almost peed my pants!

gentlestitches May 10, 2013 at 6:42 pm

HaHa. This is hilarious. Thank God I only have the responsibility of a webpage and am off my facebook! So true re the distractions. You’ll be busy making comments on all these sites!

Linda May 11, 2013 at 8:08 am

You about touched on it all. How right you are about having those wonderful ideas for a blog when you’re doing something else. I’m then lucky if I can remember what they were. One thing’s for certain: there’s rarely a 20 minute blog which is what makes the whole thing so challenging. Fun post.

Becky May 31, 2013 at 3:39 am

Not sure any blogger will be able to top this one! Bravo!

Gigi Ross May 31, 2013 at 1:22 pm

So glad you liked it!

Lollie - The Fortuitous Housewife June 10, 2013 at 10:02 am

Digging thru my reading list (procrastinating actually writing a blog post), laughed so hard while reading this post I’m sure the entire neighborhood was wondering what that crazy blogger lady was doing up in her tiny little office – guess I should have closed the window first.

I love/hate, admire/scoff at those bloggers that claim to whip out posts in under 15 minutes. I’ve been at this bloggin’ thang for 2.5 years, and the fastest I’ve ever finished (from drafting thru promoting) is maybe 2 hours.

So related to the numerous cyber tangents you recounted – blogging is a blessing and a curse for ADDers like me.

Nellie June 15, 2013 at 9:52 am

Elizabeth @ Real Inspired October 9, 2013 at 4:41 pm

HI-larious! Pretty much how it goes, except I’m chasing a toddler in between each step. It’s how I get my exercise 😀

Stacey October 9, 2013 at 4:50 pm

I sat here and laughed until I cried!! You hit the nail on the head. I have done ALL of that! In fact, I was skimming your post so I could leave a comment, but had to go back and actually read because I was like, wait, what am I reading? So, so true!!!

An Exercise In Frugality October 9, 2013 at 5:34 pm

While I was really hoping this post would contain the answers I was looking for, I am pleased to find out that in fact you’ve been spying on me for the last 100 days. Because how else would you have known how I promote all my blog posts like this? LOL

Jenn October 9, 2013 at 5:42 pm

LMAO!! That was a great post! A typical night in my house hold! lol

Holly October 9, 2013 at 5:53 pm

Neha October 9, 2013 at 6:09 pm

OMG… can so relate to it at some point or the other… was expecting some tips when I clicked on the link but gave me a good early morning laugh and something to ponder for the day… hope it does not interfere with my idea generation process … just kidding! :)

Cathy Davis October 9, 2013 at 6:15 pm

rain October 9, 2013 at 7:58 pm

hysterical and pretty much sums my days up.

Jae Mac October 9, 2013 at 8:16 pm

I knew I wasn’t the only person who felt like this. It feels really good to be among friends. This post was written very tongue and cheek. I guess I should be doing all of those things instead of writing this comment. Hopefully, you’ll check out a post of mine. 😉
Jae Mac @ I’m Just Sayin’…(Damn!)

Julie the Wife October 9, 2013 at 9:33 pm

This is exactly my life, except add four hours of work out of house and driving three kids to activities because husband now works mainly out of town, but think about blog posts/social media the entire time you’re out of the house. And add about 3 cups of strong coffee.
In other words, AMEN, SISTA.

Tiffany@thymeoftaste October 9, 2013 at 9:40 pm

LMAO! So true and can so relate! Love this post…it’s the “ugly” behind real blogging!

Kristen Dastrup October 9, 2013 at 10:45 pm

This is funny because it’s true!

Bames October 10, 2013 at 2:14 am

I was having one of those really horrible days when I know I won’t ever find the time to write a blog post and was feeling really weird… Then I read your post and… You made me laugh!

Thank you for making me feel good today.

Now go comment on my blog… lol.

Seriously, a wonderfully funny post and I love it!

to. the. point.

Kim {Stuffed Suitcase} October 10, 2013 at 10:58 am

So absolutely wonderful! I often find myself looking at the clock and wondering where in the world the day went. I’m glad I’m not the only blogger who gets distracted by social media during her “work” day. Thanks for the laugh!

Lindsay froats October 10, 2013 at 11:14 am

Ok, this is hilarious! I’m new to this whole thing and haven’t even gotten down to making a twitter account…

Leigh Powell Hines October 10, 2013 at 1:30 pm

I think your praying worked, and you just went viral. Great laughs, with a lot of truth.

Corey @ Tinysidekick October 10, 2013 at 2:48 pm

I have not read a single post in months that made me actually laugh out loud!!! This is my day…oh and add in babbling to my hubs about all of it and him rolling eyes cause he thinks I’m nuts. Thank you for letting me know I’m not alone. I curse FB on a daily basis. How can I have almost 400 followers and it says that 1 person saw my post!!!! Ahhhhh!

Sandra October 10, 2013 at 3:23 pm

Sweet Mother of Pearl this is hilarious and oh so true! I should have worn waterproof mascara today. So happy to know I’m not the only one that obsesses like this. Now I’ll have to research how to write a post that depicts the reality of being a blogger.

Felice/All That's Left Are The Crumbs October 10, 2013 at 5:38 pm Add in a couple of lines about wanting to be able to:
1. take a decent photo
2. edit said photo to look acceptable
3. throw computer out of the window

and you would have my life. This has to be shared so that it goes viral.

Brooke Nelson October 10, 2013 at 9:09 pm

Pretty sure you can read my mind :-)

Lacy October 14, 2013 at 5:27 pm

Hilarious post! I seriously go through this everyday right now. I’ve gotta get my crap together….

Susan October 30, 2013 at 10:28 am

Michele October 30, 2013 at 6:42 pm

I (literally) LOL’d to the “have another baby” comment. Hilarious!

Michelle @ Life on the Horizon November 5, 2013 at 9:25 am

Oh, I love this!!! Thank you!

Tara Newman November 5, 2013 at 11:01 am

Just found your blog and am binge reading your posts on blogging. Clearly, I am demonstrating my rookie status. Thanks for providing such a great resource. Literally laughed out loud from this post!! My taxed, cognitively overloaded brain needed a good laugh.

ivywick December 1, 2013 at 8:55 pm

Just read this and peed my pants. So absolutely true. I’m new to the blogging world and the obsessive amount of time I spend trying to get traffic without spending money is ridiculous. Thank you thank you thank you. I have a new blog post coming out tomorrow on my blog “Accidentally Awesome” on wordpress. I think give your post above, you will really like it. I’ll be back to visit you soon!

Elmarie Porthouse December 15, 2013 at 6:57 pm

This is the funniest (best) blog post I have read in a long time. I think you are describing exactly the day most of us have. The only difference, I just don’t pick kids up from school but often forget to cook dinner and stare at my husband in amazement when he walks through the door at night.

Gigi Ross December 15, 2013 at 8:17 pm

Glad you like it :) I had fun writing it!

Jennifer Abel December 15, 2013 at 10:29 pm

I love this blog. So funny and so relevant, we must all be the same when we first start blogging. Mind you I’ve been blogging for a while and yes I still check this and that just to make sure, with no idea what I’m making sure of.

Shelah @ Everyday Alaska December 16, 2013 at 2:00 am

You were hilarious! Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed reading it…:-)

David Ingham December 16, 2013 at 5:29 am

Gigi Thanks for your article very funny I though I was the only person who had those days. You have inspired me to do more Thanks You :)

JBelle January 1, 2014 at 8:14 pm

Reading this was like reading about myself.

Jeanni January 3, 2014 at 4:34 pm

This has to be one of the best posts! I love the one about forgetting about it for 38 days! Sounds so much like me. :)

Jennifer Flanders January 29, 2014 at 6:56 pm

I have no idea how I got here — I am as bad about following rabbit trails and getting distracted as you sound — but I think it was one of your Pinterest-friendly images that caught my eye.Good work! (See? Sometimes it does pay off!) This post made me laugh out loud at least four or five times, so I had to leave a comment to say thanks for that. I suspect your posts are more popular than you let on. If not, it’s probably just a matter of time.

Shannon February 9, 2014 at 10:10 am

This is a wonderful post! I could have written it myself…I actually did wish we were having another baby just so I could blog about it! Thanks so much for making me feel a little less crazy :-)

Beth February 9, 2014 at 10:15 am

Having recently become blogging myself to express my creative insights on love and romance, I still read this article on the recommendation of a dear friend and sister blogger. Must say I love your sense of humour and insight and I wish you much success in the future with your blog.
