Super doesn’t even begin to describe the app I’m reviewing today.
I think I’m in heaven with this app and so are my kids.
Super8 is a FREE iPhone app that lets you create movies like you cannot believe. You can piece together clips/scenes, apply effects and even create credits.
You open the app and you feel like you’re in another dimension. The Super8 movie camera dimension. It’s a little bit hard to figure out what to do at first. But there’s a great instruction manual and cool prompts on each screen to show you what each button and toggle switch does.
When you navigate to the camera, you can choose different “lenses” through which to film (color, black and white, sepia, chromatic, xray and more – so badass) and turn effects on or off. These effects offer varying features – lighting, styles to make the movie look old-school, etc.
You can record as many scenes, or clips, as you want to. You can title your film, create a credits screen, delete scenes, and more.
After you have your whole movie organized, you click “develop film” and Super8 goes to work creating your mini-movie.
When it’s all done, you go into your movie library, select your movie, and pull down the projection screen to view it.
You can then share your movie via email. Dude, this is such a kick ass app.
What I love is that if you’re on, say, a vacation, you can take little clips all day long and then immediately piece them into a movie capturing your day’s events. No more long, drawn out boring vacation videos with tons of dead time. No more need for expensive editing software (okay, this doesn’t app doesn’t do a ton, but it’s got a lot).
The cons? It eats up your battery really fast, and sometimes it makes my iPhone just freak out. But that is easily rectified, nothing lost.
Watch my little movie that I did chronicling the arrival of my iPad2 the other day. I’m sure Coppola is shivering in his boots.
And now, go get this app at iTunes.

really loving the app girl Friday!!!!
This sounds way too good to be true. I’m going to have to check it out. If I can figure it out, it will be a true testament to how “easy” it is to use.
Thanks for sharing!

Gigi: can you please do a post on how a person can learn to be tech savvy?
Is there a way to start? Are there/is there a specific place you go to for tutorials?
Do we just jump in?
I’m serious…I need to get in on this, and not be so scared anymore.
Oh wow! That looks really nifty neato; alas I lack an iphone. Wah!
It took me big huge bunches of time to learn how NOT to be afraid to make videos, but once you realize it’s really easy indeed, it’s a ton of fun!

This sound so awesome, Gigi! I have TONS of clips on my iPhone that I need to turn into movies and delete off of my phone. Once I e-mail it to myself, I guess I can send that somewhere to put on a DVD? Hmmm…
That looks pretty sweet. You should take a look at the iMovie app. Kind of expensive, but totally worth it in my opinion.
I have a friend who records video on his iPhone, uses the iSuper8 app, then does some editing with iMovie. He makes some pretty sweet videos. Includes background music, etc. I am downloading this app myself. Thanks for the tip.
