Introducing The Idea Bank: B2S/B2B Week 2

by Gigi Ross on September 19, 2010

Don’t read this until you’ve read the reading assignment for this week. Go here for it.

I hope you all love this idea as much as I do.

How would you like to have an ongoing resource of writing topics and ideas? A place to go when you’re stuck on what to write about?

Well, this week, when you give a little to the B2S/B2B challenge, you’re going to get a lot back in return!

I’ve created a page called the Idea Bank.  (soon it will be in my nav bar). The Idea Bank is going to be an ongoing, ever-growing bank of writing ideas created for this group, BY this group.

Right now, I have over 80 topics in the bank. Thanks to Joann of Laundry Hurts My Feelings for helping come up with some of these topics for me.

Your mission this week, should you choose to accept it, is:

1. Come up with 10 (or more!) writing topics for the Idea Bank. Post your topics in a comment  on the Idea Bank page (don’t post it here). I’ll be updating the Idea Bank as the comments come in. Get creative, let them be outrageous, outlandish, controversial, thought-provoking, funny!

If everyone submits 10 topics…we’ll have a pool of over 1,000 topics to write about. Cool, right?

2. Next, take any ONE topic from the Idea Bank list and use that as inspiration your post for this week.

Everyone who completes both tasks and leaves a comment on the Idea Bank will be entered in a giveaway.

I can’t wait to see what you all come up with. THIS is going to be collaboration and creativity at its best!

Writing Task is due by Thursday, 9/23!! Link your posts up below using the linky!

This is a great idea and will be such a useful resource! Thanks for putting together such great reading material!

Thanks, kasey! Looks like you’re the first reader this week! I am super excited about the Idea Bank and hope everybody finds it a great resource!

What a fabulous idea (no pun intended). I can’t wait to see the different topics and to do this week’s assignment, especially since I never managed to do last week’s.

Despite my assignment slacking, I have made some overall changes, like added pages and a tag cloud to my blog, and I plan on adding the Disqus comment widget. Plus that pesky, lingering idea about changing to Wordpress…

kludgymom September 19, 2010 at 9:47 am

I’m SO excited about the Idea Bank. Great submissions already this morning!

Yuliya September 19, 2010 at 10:47 am

This is so wonderful, the Idea Bank is already chock full of deposits. Off to make my own! Once I conquer the writers block…

PS Missus Kludgy can I have the whole six weeks to work on the 11 point inspection because my step-uncle is in the hospital with conjuctivits and my dog ate my laptop? I can have my “mom” sign a note…

This is a really great idea. I used Mama Kat’s Writers Prompts last week to help get my mind spinning. I didn’t use any yet but I got some great ideas that I jotted down.

Mad Woman behind the Blog September 19, 2010 at 12:26 pm

So one, I’m a showoff because I want to publicly announce that at 1024 am MY TIME! I’ve both written my idea bank ideas comments AND written the assigned post.
How do you like them apples?

Now do I have egg on my face for mentioning this on the wrong post?

kludgymom September 19, 2010 at 2:14 pm

Wooo hoo! Look at you!!!

Tractor Mom September 19, 2010 at 1:43 pm

Do you have a Slinky that we could post our assignment to? I would like to read everyone’s posts after they write them! We’re going to be able to see everybody’s ideas so why not their posts!

kludgymom September 19, 2010 at 2:14 pm

Yes, I’ll be putting a linky up – I think on this post! Will get to that today!

Steph (Pandamonium) September 19, 2010 at 1:54 pm

So excited for this, I already posted 10 ideas and keep coming up with more. 😀

10) Write a letter to your household from one of your appliances.
9) Who was your favorite teacher? Your least favorite teacher? Why?
8) According to philosopher William James, a sense of humor is just “common sense, dancing.” How does this show up in your life?
7) Do you ever wonder about what would have happened if you had gone to your second choice college, or married the *other* boyfriend, or taken the *other* job?
6) Your child’s teacher called today because little Johnny told her ______, and the teacher was curious/worried/concerned.
5) What relative has made the most impact on your life?
4) Does your life have a theme song?
3) Make a playlist that best describes a day in your life: past, present, future.
2) Is there anything in your life you left undone? Will you ever go back and undo it?
1a) You’ve just been arrested. Why? Write the newspaper story, complete with headline.
1) What is the title of your autobiography?

How funny is it that the computer turns the 8 with the ) into 8) ???

Great ideas!

10. Really 10, Gigi? You’re really trying to push me, aren’t you? I’ll try and come up with something.

Cori September 19, 2010 at 8:31 pm

I love the idea of the Idea Bank…just hate the idea of coming up with 10 to submit!! Okay…of to think!

Cori September 19, 2010 at 8:32 pm

The exact reason you told us tO EDIT our posts…..

my post above should say….

*Okay, OFF to think!!

Tough Cookie Mommy September 19, 2010 at 9:15 pm

Great idea, Gigi.

NotJustAnotherJennifer September 20, 2010 at 11:06 am

Love this idea! I have a few thoughts I have been keeping as a back up for when I have no idea what to write. This will be a great resource!

One question: I, too, have seen posts on blogs that led me to write one, and I have been wondering if it’s appropriate to somehow mention that. And if you do, do you need to tell the blogger you are referencing? Specifically, I was planning to ask you about this anyway because your post about your son and popularity resulted in a post I wrote. So I linked to you in my post. I don’t want anyone to think I’m stealing their ideas, but I also don’t want to attach them to me unless they want me to. Does that make sense? (The post I wrote mentioning you is listed below.)

Hi Geeg!

This is me waving to you as I crawl out from under my writer’s rock. I am so sorry to not have participated in your incredible blog challenge. 2 things got in the way: Mexico and deadlines.

You know about Mexico, but the deadline is my critique partner and I have until Friday to finish up each other’s revisions. And so I am trying to stay out of blog world this week and focus on revisions. Total bad timing on my part and I do apologize because you know I love you more than anything.

I love the writer’s bank! And I gave you some ideas, yeah, but girl, you slammed it home! Your topics are brilliant! And profuse! You are the man!

And now that I have used up all my exclamation marks for the day, I’m crawling back under my writer’s rock. I’m so glad your challenge is such a success.

Natalie September 20, 2010 at 12:37 pm

I love this idea and I’m already thinking of 10 for the idea bank! I’ve got posts for tomorrow (our wedding anniversary) & Wed (You Know You’re a Mom When-sDaze), so I will post mine for Thursday!

keia September 20, 2010 at 1:11 pm

1. What does “HOME” mean to you?
2. Poop, the colors, how it makes you feel, when you
finally got over the smell of poop and changing poopy
diapers?
3. Your first parenting a-ha moment.
4. A kid who has inspired you (other than your kid(s))
5. The rain makes me…
6. Your most treasured item or room in your home
7. Your most overused word.
8. I’m so over _________ (Dora the Explorer or Justin Bieber
–pick a kiddie show or kiddie idol) and this why?
9. What three bloggers are you inspired by and why?
10. What’s in the trunk of your car?

Cori September 20, 2010 at 8:13 pm

Okay I did both parts of the assignment! Yay!!

Jessica September 21, 2010 at 9:56 am

Whoo hoo I not only got this week’s assignment done today but I got last week’s as well!!

Pop September 21, 2010 at 12:04 pm

Woohoo! I got my work done this week! Now where’s that gold star?

But seriously, what a great idea! If I ever tell you, “Gigi, I have nothing to blog about,” you have permission to punch me in the face or take away my wine. But don’t do both – that’s just cruel.

Mrs.Mayhem September 21, 2010 at 1:20 pm

What an amazingly fabulous idea!

I will post the 10 ideas on the idea bank page and then link up my post, after I write it, of course :)

Booyah's Momma September 21, 2010 at 11:51 pm

This was a great idea! Had a hard time just choosing 1!

Joey @ Big Teeth & Clouds September 22, 2010 at 6:39 am

I’ve been looking for an excuse to put some car pictures on my blog! Thanks Idea Bank!

You are brilliant! I just added mine. Ok am I too late if I link up tomorrow? I know I am slacking…this school schedule is killing me. I need more time in my day!

Dalia September 26, 2010 at 5:14 pm

What a great idea! Wishing I wasn’t late for class!
