The Blog Post That Flopped – #WholeLottaLove

by Gigi Ross on February 14, 2013

On Valentine’s Day, I’d like to talk about a different kind of love that we need to spread.

We bloggers are an interesting breed.

Day after day, we open windows into the most private, celebratory, painful and funny moments in our lives and ask strangers to poke their heads in and have a look around.

It takes guts, or a certain type of insanity, to do this regularly. Comments and feedback help encourage us to keep going.

Every blogger has a post that has flopped: one that deserved a whole lotta love, and didn’t get it.

Maybe it was a post that was truly soul-baring. Or incredibly funny. Or promoted a cause. Or touched on a controversial topic.

But due to timing, or luck, or more often, that mysterious thing about blogging that makes us completely unable to predict what posts will do well and which ones won’t, the post fell flat.

For bloggers, there’s nothing more crushing than seeing a post flop.

The idea occurred to me that Valentine’s Day would be a good time for all of us to do something nice for each other. And agree to give a whole lotta love to each other’s posts that got passed over, long ago. Resurrect the dead and give them one more shot at life, one more moment in the sun.

Are you in?

Welcome to the Whole Lotta Love linkup.

Let’s discuss the rules.

It Takes Two To Tango. If you submit a post of your own, you have to agree to give love (comment) to other posts on the linky. And I don’t mean one other post or just your bloggy BFF’s post, either. I mean make a sincere and earnest effort to visit a lot of posts.

Sharing Is Encouraged But Not Required. If you find that you really love someone else’s post, share it on Twitter or Facebook or G+ or Pinterest or whatever works for you. But you don’t have to. Maybe you don’t have a comment to leave? Share the post instead.

Flash The Credentials. Be legit, yo, and get some more people to join this linkup by adding the below image to your resurrected post (or if you’re creating a fresh post for the content). Please have the image link to my site. I’m too lazy to make this all fancy HTML-like with badge code and stuff.

Get In Before It’s Too Late! Whole Lotta Love will run from today until February 28, so you’ve got two weeks to add your post and get around to loving on some others.

Hashtag It: Share this post, or other posts you find in the linky, using #WholeLottaLove.

The linky is open NOW, so start digging into your archives and find that one post that needs a second shot at life! I can’t wait to read!

I just re-read my post about my doggie, and if that ain’t True Love, in honor of Valentine’s Day, I don’t know what is. Even though I can’t resurrect him, I thought I’d resurrect the post.

Thanks for the opportunity to do a “come-back” on a post I liked. Happy Valentines Day!

You’re brilliant, Gigi! And this post encouraged me to post the post I’m already sure will be a flop. Once I get the post up, I’ll link up with you for some bloggy love!! Great idea!

Lea Ann February 14, 2013 at 12:29 pm

What a neat idea! I just went and read every single post, added comments, and shared in some way in social media. Great posts everybody!

Jessica February 14, 2013 at 8:01 pm

Great idea Gigi, I need to dig for one and link up.

Alison February 14, 2013 at 11:17 pm

Terrific idea, Gigi!

I have many posts that have no comments, because I moved blogs/ changed URLs etc, so I have little idea which posts didn’t get much love. Time to dig through the archives. :)

This is an excellent idea! I’ll need to dig and find just the right one that I loved that no one else seemed to see (and by dig I mean just pick one because there are many.)

I entered the 1st chapter of my memoire as my contribution – would totally love some reads there.

I can’t wait to delve into these other links. :-)

Great idea Gigi.

Is it normal that my link doesn’t appear right away?

I love the Darwinian classification of jeans you added.

Gigi Ross February 16, 2013 at 10:06 am

It may take a minute. Check back and let me know if it doesn’t show up!!

Love this idea Gigi! There are definitely posts where I poured my heart and soul into and there were crickets. I have to dig through my archives to find the right one. Thank YOU for this!

I absolutely love this idea! In fact, I had been working on something for a while that just went live on my blog this week. Why should our old posts go to waste?! There are hidden gems in our archives that deserve some blog lovin’! :)

Great minds think alike! I’m in good company!
