How To Link To Individual Google Plus Posts

I’ve become a pretty dedicated Google Plus user, despite all the naysayers that are still out there. I really like the content I find and the connections I am making with people I wouldn’t normally find in my normal blogging travels.

As Google Plus grows, you’ll want to be able to promote certain of your posts there – whether it be on your blog, in your other social media channels, or maybe via email.

It’s easy to link to your profile page, but it’s not so easy to figure out how to link to one of your individual Google Plus posts or shares.

That’s the quick tip I’ll share with you today.

How To Link To Individual Google Plus Posts

Go To Your Profile

Access your posts from your profile. Your profile can now be found in the left vertical sidebar. Click on “profile.”

Find The Post You Want To Link To

Locate the post you want to link to. Mouse over the upper right hand corner of the post box. Yu’ll see a little downward-facing arrow or carrot appear. Click it.

Select Link To Post From Dropdown

A dropdown menu will appear when you click on the carrot. Select “link to post.” (there are lots of other things you can do from here too, like edit the post, delete it or disable reshares).

Copy Your Link!

Google Plus will generate a new popup box that has your share link for that individual post. Copy and go!

Speaking of Google Plus, have you circled me yet?

Google+ is on my ‘get better at’ list. That list is pretty long… This is helpful though, thanks!!

So what’s the difference between just going to your site to copy the link and doing it on google+? I am so confused with all this stuff! AND- next question: I randomly put bloggers in the circles but don’t really know the purpose of them. I usually circle “bloggers and following”- sometimes “friends”. I always share my posts with all, so not sure what deciphering is used for really. Maybe more google groups that I am not aware of, eh?

Circles mainly let you direct content at specific niches or organize people around interests. This is great for nicheless bloggers like myself – who sometimes write about food, or travel, or social media, or parenting. The folks that are here to read my posts on blogging may not necessarily want to read my stuff on travel. So I can organize my circles around interests and then choose to share content specifically with those circles, or just have it as a way to communicate with a group of people that have some common thread that’s defined by me. Admittedly, I didn’t realize the power of circles when getting started and dumped nearly everybody in one circle. Now I have some reoganizing to do!

As far as sharing G+ links, maybe you’re in a group that shares links to promote your stuff in social media. By sharing the G+ link directly they can go right there and plus or share it with their G+ followers. But more importantly, you have to remember that as G+ gets more and more tied to Google search, G+ posts will show up in search results if you have author rank. Go google Bat Dad right now. I happened to share Bat Dad’s video on G+. When my husband googles Bat Dad, he gets MY G+ post in his search result – 3rd in ranking. That’s why G+ is going to be so important moving forward. Clear as mud? :)

I have reconnected my blog to my google + account. After the connection is made it can take several months before the snippet shows up in the google results. be patient and don’t forget to use google webmaster toolbar and let google know your website is connected with google+.

Hey… that’s great! I’ve been clicking on the time in the post I want the direct link to and then copying it from the address bar. This is easier!

Great tip Gigi! I had wondered that but not had a chance to figure it out yet!

My family all the time say that I am wasting my time here at web, but I know I am getting knowledge everyday by reading thes fastidious posts.

I just simply right click on the date/time for the post and copy link…..that is the url to the post on G+ just as it is for FB and twitter

Gigi Ross October 6, 2013 at 12:59 pm

That is certainly another option.

I know I need to reorganize my circles, among other brush ups with Google +. Thanks for sharing this!

Thank you so much; one of my goals is to improve my G+ attendance and participation. And yes, I have you circled!
