Friday Flip-Offs, 7/23 Edition

by Gigi Ross on July 22, 2010

Welcome to Friday Flip-Offs! Get rid of your weekday angst! Meet some fab bloggers!

But first, some housekeeping.

Tomorrow, I have another Surprise Stalker victim lined up. You’ll like this one, I just know it.

Also, I got really inspired by the comments on my Unrequited Love post this week, and have come up with some fun bloggy things for the fall. They’re still cooking, but I plan to make some announcements about them in the coming weeks. I hope I can count on my Fab Flip Off Friends (FFOFs) to join me!

Finally, go enter the $150 Whole Foods gift card sweepstakes.

Okay. Without further ado…let the flips begin! It’s been a pretty good week, with getting to guest post over at ScaryMommy. But I can always find something to complain about.

To summer: FLIPPITY FLIP OFF. My kids are sick of me. We don’t have budget for summer camps. We are running out of things to do because it’s so hot here. Boy Wonder was in 6 timeouts yesterday and lost every privilege imaginable. Bring school back!

To a certain realtor: FLIP OFF. You said you were going to show my house Monday. You realize that my house is not currently on the market. It is a pocket listing with a friend. It was not show-ready. That’s why I stayed up until midnight cleaning on Sunday, and 6 more hours on Monday. Then, you emailed our realtor and told him it was gonna have to be Tuesday. So I got to clean my house TWICE in two days. Then your client hated it.Yay.

To my dog: WOOF OFF. I know you’re old. I know you’re lazy and tired. I know we failed you by teaching you to use a dog door as a puppy, because apparently that did not teach you bladder control. But now that we don’t have a dog door, do you need to pee all over my dark green, scored-for-$120 Pottery Barn rugs? So that I can’t SEE that you’ve peed there? I can only SMELL it and have to divine where you’ve sullied the one nice decor item I own? And then discover that the pee has gone through the rug and caused black stains on our ugly but still hardwood floors?

To the people on a “budget” who aren’t on a budget: FLIP OFF. You’ve made the list twice this month. If you are buying multiple luxury items, you are not on a budget. Just FYI.

To Google Reader: Seriously. FLIP OFF. I’ve deleted blogs 3x in Reader. I’ve gone back into my Blogger (note: I don’t use Blogger anymore) dashboard and deleted them from there.Twice. Yet, there they still are. I am baffled as to how your stock price can be as high as it is when your ability to create a well-designed web product seems highly questionable.

All better now. Now…go check out Lish at A Beautiful Mess…she’s joining in, ..as are some other bloggy friends! Link up and join the bloghop!

LOVE your FLIP OFFS… I wouldn’t even know where to start this week… hehe

Sara @ Tedious Life July 22, 2010 at 10:52 pm

I also have an old dog that thinks he is exempt from all the rules, sucks doesn’t it? Thanks for introducing me to Friday Flip-Offs! I might do some ‘flipping’ next Friday.

I also want you to know that I have subscribed to your RSS feed.

AmyBlam July 22, 2010 at 11:01 pm

Gigi-I am SORRY that Google really, really wants you to read my blogs. I will quit bribing them to keep me in your google reader. I am sorry. 😉
My flips are posting tomorrow am so I’ll link up then!

Donna July 22, 2010 at 11:13 pm

Loved all of them, but especially your dog. I have a granddog that does the same thing. And she lives in our basement, so yeah, errr.

Thanks again for letting me get crap off my chest.

alexis July 22, 2010 at 11:13 pm

ugh, google reader is on my black list right now. i don’t WANT to have 29 unread posts from people i hate in my reader, ok google? stop messing with me and just work like you’re supposed to! dammit!

Kristin (Wanderlust) July 22, 2010 at 11:42 pm

Just found your blog. Hilarious! Oh, and to delete yourself from google friends… you have to actually go to that person’s blog, log INTO google friends, go into your user profile (are you sighing deeply yet?), choose to stop following the blog, then I think, uh, sign out (so flippity flip flip google friends widget). I hate it. That is why people rarely lose followers from their widget. It’s just too damn tedious.

And yet, here I am signing up for yours. Moth to the flame…

alicia July 23, 2010 at 12:20 am

Ah, I’m finally done. Is this day still going? AHHHH. I’d like to join in the google reader flip off please. It is really makin me nuts! Sorry about the showing not workin out. At least you had a clean house for 48 hours. Haha.

Pumpkin and Piglet July 23, 2010 at 1:03 am

Great flips as always! Sorry the Google Reader/Blogger thing didn’t work for you :( That’s rough that the showing didn’t work out, hope someone buys it soon.

blackhuff July 23, 2010 at 2:37 am

Google reader also frustrate me like that – sometimes it just don’t want to delete what I want to delete.
Have a good weekend :)

Amy July 23, 2010 at 4:56 am

I second your Flip Off to people on ” budgets ” – i have a particular friend whining about not being able to go to the snow twice this year, while here i am only a few weeks from being totally broke in my back account and depending on government handouts til i go back to work.
Boo freaking hoo to those people!

Maureen July 23, 2010 at 4:57 am

I’m too afraid to read my Google reader right now hahahaha. Great flips as usual, girl! Hope you’ll have a great weekend!

Susan July 23, 2010 at 6:04 am

Our dog recently stained our hardwoods too. Threw up in the middle of the night so by the time I woke and found it, well, damaged the floors:(

I have my own flip off I need to get out there. Getting sick while dh is away. Now I have to either drag all 3 with me to the dr.s appt. or run around and find someone to watch my three children. Chances are they will come with me and it will be one of those days.

TheKitchenWitch July 23, 2010 at 6:12 am

I love the idea of a weekly Flip-Off. So many annoyances, so little time.

I think I’d have throttled that realtor. And the client, too.

Lisa VK In Florida July 23, 2010 at 6:17 am

Yes, what is with rude, unprofessional realtors?! We’re trying to sell our house also. Yesterday I cleaned like a crazy woman, my realtor came over to show the house and waited two hours. The people and their buyer’s agent never showed up!

Grrr.

Rachel July 23, 2010 at 6:53 am

Hi first time here…. love this idea… and loved your flip offs… especially people on a budget … spot on they bug me to…. happy Weekend Everyone

mommakiss July 23, 2010 at 7:06 am

while you’re at it, will you tell Google Reader to hold my mail for a week? Thanks!

finally linked up. yay me.

Glamamom July 23, 2010 at 8:06 am

Woof off ha! Glad you made it out of Blogger alive. I hate it already and am on a waiting list to convert over to Wordpress {sigh}. Have a great weekend!

Tayarra July 23, 2010 at 8:20 am

Love the dog one. “Woof off” that’s great, but not great! Sorry about your rugs!!! I hope you have an awesome weekend!

Pop July 23, 2010 at 8:49 am

Great flip-offs, Gigi! I have a friend who also said he was on a budget and he went out and bought a new TV.

Me: I thought u were on a budget?
Friend: Yeah…a baller budget!
Me: I didn’t know ballers carried credit card debt

Bethany July 23, 2010 at 9:11 am

At the risk of losing a reader, I’m going to try to help you out with that last one. I know one reader already left a comment on how to do that, but in case it didn’t work or you were really confused, (like I was), I’ll tackle it again for you.

This only works if you are with Blogger.

1. Go to your dashboard.
2. Near the middle of the page there is a tab which says “Blogs I’m following” and a tad below that there is a button that says “manage”.
3. Click the button and you’ll find a list of all the blogs you follow. (This is different from subscribing, so unsubscribing in your reader won’t work if you’ve clicked someone’s follow button.)
4. Click on “settings” for whichever blogs you are done with.
5. In the box that pops up, there’s a blue line that says “Stop following this site.” Click it, and you’re good.

Good luck!

Lori @ In Pursuit of Martha Points July 23, 2010 at 9:14 am

I would like to formally flip off irresponsible banks and home buyers. You know, the ones that caused my house to loose over $200k in value. Despite having out MORE than that down on my house, I am now looking at not qualifying for re-finance that assumes I have 20% equity in my house.

Where is the relief program for responsible people? Did I miss it somewhere ??

So all you…flip the flip off!!!

Thank you. I feel better now.

ericka @ alabaster cow July 23, 2010 at 9:28 am

last week we did the rush around cleaning and then the realtor was a no show! grr!! so i feel your pain!

Kerry July 23, 2010 at 9:36 am

I have not sold RE BUT I do know how to sell. That means ASKING your buyer questions so you know what the hell they want. DUH!

Also, if you figure out how to unfollow…let me know. Same thing happens to me when I am trying to clean things up. People sure know how to unfollow us so there must be a trick.

gigi927 July 23, 2010 at 9:46 am

Yeah, how about it? Somewhere there’s a trick to that unfollow. :)

Bev July 23, 2010 at 9:38 am

I laughed at “woof-off!” Sounds like a great week despite the annoyances. Hope your weekend is equally lovely.

xo

Greta July 23, 2010 at 9:49 am

I second you on the google reader dilemma. Stupid google.

Megan (Best of Fates) July 23, 2010 at 10:05 am

Oh summer, it’s always trying to get away with something.

Jean Has Been Shopping July 23, 2010 at 10:11 am

Oh my. Those are some hearty flip-offs. I’m feeling ’em, and raising my cup of coffee to salute you.
Have an awesome weekend!

Katie July 23, 2010 at 10:15 am

BAH to google reader! I have the same damn problem! I am trying to simplify my life!! I KNOW people unfollow me, so what the HECK!

oh, btw, great flip-offs :)

Alexandra July 23, 2010 at 10:53 am

geeg…ffo’s grows every week…you really hit on something…awesome.

KLZ July 23, 2010 at 11:03 am

My realtor is very high on my list right now. She is also my Mother-in-Law. Joy of joys, that one.

kelly July 23, 2010 at 11:50 am

Haha! This is great! I linked a post I wrote a while ago, but seemed great to add to ‘Flip-Off Friday!”

Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment on my blog! :)

Life with Kaishon July 23, 2010 at 11:56 am

Oh my goodness. I am so sad about the rug. And the realtor. That is pure craziness. Annoying craziness!

Hope your weekend is wonderful and nothing happens that makes you want to flip anyone off : )

blueviolet July 23, 2010 at 12:19 pm

I share your fury with your realtor because I’m in the for sale arena myself. I just fired one and am about to relist with someone else. They are infuriating!

Elle July 23, 2010 at 12:50 pm

“To the people on a “budget” who aren’t on a budget: FLIP OFF. You’ve made the list twice this month. If you are buying multiple luxury items, you are not on a budget. Just FYI.”

Seriously, I HATE that. I have lots of family that does this. They never have money to pitch in for pizza or can’t even give a birthday gift that is more than $5, but then they go out and buy a PS3 or $50 video games. Yeah, I ain’t buying your budget crap.

Evelyn July 23, 2010 at 1:10 pm

As usual your Flip Offs are great. I really hate it when realtors keep you on your toes, while stepping on them. Sheesh-just plain rude

Yuliya July 23, 2010 at 1:41 pm

Yup people claiming to be on a budget buying luxury items are poopy! When I first immigrated to these good ole United States, it really pissed me off when my fellow fresh off the boat Ruskis would buy caviar with their food stamps, umm no people that IS NOT what food stamps are for!

Val July 23, 2010 at 4:40 pm

I pretty much love your posts more than any others out there. Laughter is a beautiful thing!!!!!!!

AmyBlam July 23, 2010 at 5:32 pm

Okay fabulous Gigi-I have a flip-off addendum. So I have set the LOFTY aspiration for myself that each week I am going to read, and comment, on all the people who link up here.
It would be AWESOME if only people who are actually participating would link up-certainly it would save me some time. There were at least five and one hadn’t posted in MONTHS.
Okay, I feel better.
Also I lost a reader follower so you must have figured it out. 😉 I’m quite sad.

The Flying Chalupa July 23, 2010 at 5:33 pm

Hey Gigi! Loved your scary mommy post. Seriously. One of my faves in a long time. And the blog is great too. I have happily decided to stalk you. Especially since the Empress thinks so highly of you.
ps – Austin’s summer heat is the BEST! Especially w/ timeouts.

Megan @ motherhoodunedited July 23, 2010 at 6:12 pm

ugh my google reader doesnt like to add blogs!!!

Ash July 23, 2010 at 9:01 pm

Oh how I love your Friday Flip-Offs.

So sorry about the showing. Nothing like inviting someone into your home for them to judge. Love that.

Next time, just bake some cookies, fill the house with a good smell, and forget the rest.

Lori July 23, 2010 at 9:58 pm

Thanks for all of the laughs! So glad that I found your blog today =) I really look forward to reading more of you but if you don’t mind I will not be using google reader to do it :)

Lindsay {Designer Wife} July 24, 2010 at 1:37 am

HAHAHA! I’m totally flipping off my realtor right now, too. We’re in the process of selling our place back home that we’ve been renting since we moved. And by *process* of selling, I mean going through chinese torture treatment. Get with it, Realtors!

Hope you have an amazing weeeeekend :)

Leanne July 24, 2010 at 5:25 am

FanTAStic Flips, Gigi! I’m right there with you flippin’ off SUMMER (augh) and I’ve got a few “people on a budget who aren’t on a budget” folks in my life, too!!! :O

Hope you are having a great weekend!

Fairyboo July 24, 2010 at 2:09 pm

Hey thanks for visiting and leaving a comment on my site! This is my first flip off and I dont know why I didnt find you before! SO therapeutic and what lovely ladies Ive met through here so far xxx Will add you as one of my faves. Take care xxxx

Christina July 24, 2010 at 3:24 pm

Gigi, I am so with you on the summer thing. I am D.O.N.E, I want my children to go somwhere else each day. I know that is sad, but I’m being real!
Also, total flip to the budget comment. I hear about people taking 3-4 mega vacations each year yet they bitch about money. Yeah, ya think??!!

joann Mannix July 25, 2010 at 6:55 pm

Geeg, sorry I haven’t been around. I was away for the weekend at my class reunion drinking copious amounts of champagne and having a fabulous time with old friends.

And do NOT get me started on the dog thing. I go around sniffing all the time. These moron twins and their potty training was a beast of a thing. I won’t get the carpets cleaned yet because they’re not 100% fully trained. So I scrub them myself. I crawl around on my hands and knees sniffing all my area rugs and I light candles everywhere. My family thinks I’m crazy. They don’t smell it. I think the scent of dog urine has invaded my brain cells permanently.

I loved your blog Friday Flip-Offs, 7/23 Edition | Kludgy Mom It relates to what I’ve been searching on the internet for fiverr, been searching for a long time, so finally I’ve found it, and I’m thankful! Gosh, it’s already Sunday today, I forgot to do my groceries 😛 I’ll make sure I’ll order some pizza tonight. I know it’s unhealthy but as long as I have something to eat, I don’t mind! Yum! Pizza’s are delicious!
