Ah yes, it’s Elf on the Shelf time again, people – the time of year when I spent numerous nights lying awake, wondering if I have moved our elf, Mrs. Snowflake, to a new location for the following day.
I love Mrs. Snowflake, but she is the bane of my existence sometimes.
I remember reading lots and lots of Elf on the Shelf posts last year around the blogosphere, and just the other day, I snapped this photo of Mrs. Snowflake.

And then I thought:
How fun would it be to have a photo contest where we can all share our best, weirdest, hilarious, creative and scary Elf on the Shelf locations and poses?
I can’t think of anything that would be more fun. Okay, I can think of one thing. Having the photo contest AND giving away a ridiculously fabulous prize like a Microsoft LifeCam Studio webcam!

Here are the details on how to participate.
Elf It Up Photo Contest Guidelines
1. The contest will run from today, December 1 through Friday, December 16 at 9 p.m. PST- that’s two weeks for you to snag great Elf photos!
2. Post your Elf photo in a blog post on YOUR blog with the Elf It Up badge below (sorry, WP dislikes me to use grab buttons and code, so just copy the image)and link up via the linky at the bottom anytime during the 2-week contest.
3. You can enter as many photos as you like, but each photo has to have its own blog post and separate linky entry.
4. Photos containing obscenity, hate speech or other inflammatory or objectionable content are not allowed. This is a family contest, people!
5. We’ll broadcast the images and posts via hashtag #ElfItUp.
6. I’ll draw the winner at random from the linky entries and announce the winner on Twitter and via a blog post. Microsoft will ship the winner the webcam to the address the winner specifies.
7. By entering this contest, you are granting me permission to use your #ElfItUp images in another blog post and video I plan to do at the end of the contest period!

I love this! I can’t wait to start seeing other people’s ideas for their Elf, because I’ve got a few, but not enough to get me through the whole month!

Okay, I’m not entering, because I have no elf on the shelf. This genius ploy wasn’t around when my kids were still young enough to believe it. These days they’d just laugh if I suggested the elf was watching them. So I’m not going to any extra trouble. Although…my eldest, the soon to be, 21 year old might just believe it. For the record, she does have book smarts, but that’s about it.
