I am so super excited for today’s post!
I’ve never combined video with a tutorial…until today. I’ve made a video that will walk you through how to make your own QR Code.
What is a QR Code, you ask? It’s a mobile application that allows you to scan a barcode-like image with your smartphone, which then displays some additional content. I’m seeing them more and more on magazines and business cards.
They’re incredibly easy to set up, but it’s even easier if you have a video tutorial.
Warning: this isn’t going to put Coppola out of business. Watch it as you set up your own QR code. It’s not for entertainment purposes!

What do you think?
To display your QR code in your sidebar:
1. Download the image from Paperlinks and save it to your desktop (or other folder)
2. Upload the image to Photobucket or other photo hosting service.
3. Grab the HTML code for the image.
4. Paste it into a text widget (in WordPress) in your sidebar.
Basically, you handle it just like a badge! (So, I won’t do a separate tutorial on that)
And….our Facebook 500 Blogger today is:

Look at you all techie and stuff. I think I need one of these and I don’t even have a phone that can scan it. But other people can…

Oh, I just want to be you for one day.
Just one flippin’ day.
You amaze me with your techy wisdom!
So why do I want a QR code in my sidebar?? Other than the obvious – I’m cool and techy reason (which may be reason enough).
Well, for me, it’s cool and cutting edge and I don’t like being the last one to the party. Second, I’m using it to provide extra content about myself in my QR code. I did a video message about what KludgyMom is all about and what my side business, Crowdpop Media, will be offering. This is a video you can’t get anywhere else on my blog.
So, if you had extra content to promote, you could use this as a tool for distributing it. A lot of people are putting these on their biz cards, too.
This seriously blows my mind! But I must stop back later and check it out when I have a minute. You have piqued my curiosity.
Love the tutorial! Here’s a question for ya. I’m going to put one on my new business cards- I love the video idea but I don’t do well on camera. I was thinking of doing a welcome page- do you think that is a good idea or should I just have it point to my blog or about me page?

When I switched to WP in March, one of the first things I told my designer was “I want my QR code in the sidebar.” I think they are an amazing tool…& kinda cool.
You can set it up for any page; like say, your email or RSS subscription page. Consider it a not so subtle hint for readers to encourage them to sign up!
Perfect! Thank you for this! I “read” your code, and your set-up is fantastic. (read: I will be stealing all of your ideas.) Thanks for the great tutorial.

Very nice tutorial. Clear and complete. I love it!
Once I create the QR code and someone scans it, does it stay in their phone, like an app, or would they need to scan it again each time? Like for example, by scanning it would it make my blog link handy in their phone, or would they need to go back and scan it again each time they want to open my blog in their phone? I’d like to promote the link as “easy access while on the go” but I want to make sure it actually leaves an app of some sort accessible to them
I am almost 100% positive it does not stay in their phone; it needs to be rescanned.
