Cleaning can kinda suck sometimes.
But I am here to tell you that it doesn’t have to. With these six easy steps, you, too, can be cleaning happy in no time. Like, marching band and flag-waving happy.
1. It Is Better To Look Good {than to look like a jackhole}.
I’m no design aficionado, but displaying a bottle on your counter that has a bald guy sporting an earring and a wifebeater is not recommended under any circumstances.
Just because a product has a function doesn’t mean it shouldn’t also have good form and look beautiful. Like these:
2. It Is Better To Smell Good {than to smell like plastic melting}
Do you think that pine cleaners really smell like pine? Do lemon cleaners really smell like lemon?
No. They really don’t. When I clean with certain cleaning products, I gag and cough my way out of the room (and no, it’s not from the filth, although my kids are total pigs and they do disgust me greatly). Why? Because the smells are so overpowering. I shouldn’t have to wear a hazmat suit to clean.
3. Less {Packaging} is More.
This applies to my thighs as well, but that’s a post for another time. I’m talking about less packaging.
Give me minimal packaging, please. Make it of recycled plastic and make it recyclable AGAIN once I’m done. Because I like our planet and hope it sticks around for awhile.
4. Less {Toxic Chemicals} is More.
When I wipe off my counters, I want to be able to immediately put down fresh food on top of them and not worry that the cleaning products I used will actually poison my food.
Because there’s something really wrong with the notion that we clean our houses with poison. And generally speaking, I don’t like to poison my family. GENERALLY. We all have our bad days.
5. Join the People Against Dirty.
There is a company whose products look good, smell good, use less packaging that’s good for our planet, and emphasizes natural, safe ingredients. They are the People Against Dirty.
It’s method. I puffy heart them for all these reasons. And whether you’re a person into greener living or you just like really pretty things, there’s something for you to love with method.
So, method is actually launching a campaign all around cleaning happy. A few weekends ago, I spent 2 days in San Francisco at method HQ learning about this amazing company and their products (which I already loved). I’m a “method maven” and for the next few months, I’ll be sharing with you the latest and greatest from method. If you take nothing else from this post, know this: These are people who care about what they manufacture: how it looks, how it works and how it affects our planet. That’s why I mentioned last week that you should join the people against dirty too.
6. Watch. Love. Laugh. Share. {and maybe win a trip to San Francisco!}
I like quirky. I like fun. I like colorful. I like happy. You will love this video. By watching the video on the Method Facebook page and sharing with your friends, you can enter for a chance to win a trip for two to San Francisco to visit method HQ. And a year’s supply of method products. {I hate the word squee, but feel it’s appropriate here}. Squee! method HQ is the happiest place on Earth. No lie. It makes Disney look like a funeral home.
The sweepstakes runs through April 3 so you need to go to the method Facebook page right now and enter. Sweepstakes details and restrictions can be found on their FB page. And also? If you share the video, method will love me a whole bunch.
I hope you enjoy the video…and there are more surprises and videos coming next month!
disclosure: i’m a method maven, which means i was compensated by method and received free product in exchange for this post. i loved method before they paid me, all opinions are my own and 100% accurate. especially the part about their HQ being the happiest place on earth. here’s proof:

I don’t like you right now. I mean, really. You actually have me excited about cleaning! UGH! Woman, stop it.
Not only was this post Kludgy Mom funny but, it’s making me want to throw some flip flops on and head out to get me some Method. Like I said. I don’t know if I like this. Thanks, babes! *shakes fist at you*

These are the enough reasons to stay happy in nice environment but beside that one more thing will help lot more in this we should join “”The people against Dirty”".

Frankly, I’m ok with a little poison. You should see the vermin in my house! I am a huge fan, however, of method and was inspired to learn more about them in Blake Mycoskie’s book “Start Something that Matters”. Need a little inspiration for Pink Pockets and the TOMS shoe story has that in spades. Happy Spring Cleaning to you! Gotta get moving on that dusting …
Just watched the video on FB… cute! And it was shared!
I may buy Method products just to try them out now!
I tweeted and Googled. Have a blast cleaning!

I love how you made your method plugging so funny! I want to be a method maven too…or at least in the meantime a person against dirty.
Love Method!!
..and I know exactly what you mean about the gagging from the overpowering smell of some cleaning products. Sorry folks, but berry breeze makes me sneeze.

I already loved Method before because their products looked good (shallow, right?) and now I super-love them for doing what I didn’t:
CARE.
Love love love.
I love Method products because they are the only earth-friendly products I have found that actually smell good. Entering the contest.

I don’t like cleaning, so why do I all of a sudden feel like I MUST go to the store, MUST buy Method, and MUST clean? Don’t do this to me. I don’t like cleaning, I swear! ..But, they do have really pretty bottles.. With really pretty colors..
Gee, thanks.

You must!!!
Kludgymom you’re funny! I can smell it all over your post. Since i’m a guy, it would make sense that i know little about method products but since you write passionately funny about it, i would take the pleasure in purchasing one of its items and insist to my mom that she should use and patronize it!:)
