A Writing Mini-Master Class

by Gigi Ross on February 5, 2012

The theme of #SITS31DBBB this coming week is Hone Your Writing. As I mentioned in my post, Your Blog Is Like An Ice Cream Sundae, your writing can make or break your blog.

I have never professed to be the most talented writer. I recommend Write on Edge as a superfabulous writers’ community that is focused on writing as a craft. What I do think I’m pretty good at, though, is taking an average event that happens in my day and coming up with several different ways to write about it that are compelling or entertaining. This gives me power: power to change it up, make things interesting, and make it more fun for me to write.

One of the things that I hear alot from newer bloggers is: “I couldn’t think of anything to write about, so I wrote about my day and it was so boring.”

Believe me, it is as boring to read as it probably was to write.

So this week, I am going to do a little mini class called Ignite Your Writing. I will walk you through:

1. How to take a boring topic and turn it on its head into something amazing

2. Creative ways to come up with new blog post ideas.

And of course, the coursework over at The SITS Girls this week will give you scads of other ideas as well!

I’m really excited about this week and hope you’ll come by and share your insights as well!

I’ve been kinda bored with the 31DBBB so far. Thought maybe I should move to the intermediate class as it seems every task they gave, I had already done, but I am excited about this week with the program! Can’t wait to see your mini class!

This will be fantastic! I definitely try to make my writing more interesting, but I’m never sure I succeed.

I’s so excited about this week! I NEED help with my writing. I don’t want to write boring posts. Yes, ‘they’ say, the more you write the better writer you will be….I’m trying!

I’ll be here with bells on although I will say I woke up from a nap (gift from my husband) yesterday feeling totally inspired to take Mommy Words in a whole new direction. Hoping to get some great work done on that this week!

This sounds GOOD, Gigi!
And you know I’ll be here!

Good idea for giving back to your readers! You practice what you preach.

I really appreciated the time you took last week to reply to me thoughtfully in regard to how to build my readership.
I’ve processed what you suggested with my dear husband, who is my best sounding board, and then continued to think about it some more. Haven’t completely landed on exactly what I’m going to do to help my blog become more engaging, but it is at the top of my list.

Thank you so much.

I can’t wait! That’s one of the things I struggle with – I feel like I don’t have anything “exciting” or “blog worthy” going on. I mean, my typical day is go to work, come home, scrape together something for dinner, do school work, watch terrible television, go to sleep. I’d love to work on making the everyday more “blogable”. (And I just sat here for five minutes trying to decide if the word I just made up has one “g” or two.)
